The North Fork Farm Project

Welcome to the North Fork Farm Project.

Over the past eight years, I have been documenting varying aspects of agriculture on the North Fork. I've put together a pretty extensive body of work that I believe captures the essence of what makes the North Fork so special. Apart from the amazing community that is out here, I think the essence of the North Fork lies in its rich agriculture and maritime history. My long-term goal is to produce two separate coffee table books that document these important parts of where we live. I am hoping to raise awareness and appreciation for our local farmers and the work they do.

I plan to use a combination of digital photography and film photography as well as some essays and quotes. More recently I have been photographing farms with my 4x5 film camera and have found that the nostalgic look of the film really lends itself to capturing these farms. At around $5-$10 a shot, it is not the most practical type of photography, but I love the process of creating and developing a film photograph. The book will mostly be landscape architecture and documentary photography with the occasional portrait of a farmer.

Self-publishing a coffee table book is expensive and comes with some challenges. My goal is to produce at least 500 books in the first edition run. The book will be hardcover, 150-200 pages, and printed on high-end photo paper. I am in the process of applying for some artist grants to help with publishing costs, but I am also doing my own fundraising. I currently need to raise another $6,000 to meet my budget for publishing. I have given myself a deadline of January 2023 to publish, but I’m okay with it taking a little longer. I will be launching a presale where people can purchase the book at a discount prior to release. All presales will be autographed and be paired with an 8”x10” limited edition Print.

At the end of the day, I will be donating 10% of the proceeds to the Long Island Farm Bureau. They are a valuable asset to our local community and have a history of helping farms in need.

If you'd like to see this come to fruition, please follow along @NorthFork_FarmProject and help by donating through the GoFundMe link below. GoFundMe takes a percentage so if you’d prefer to donate directly to the project you can Venmo me through @Jeremy-Garretson.

Thank you for your support.
